  rmt1 _ I understand your point of view, to an adult who has escaped the mind control it looks stupid in hindsight but to a child? I think you need to consider a few things about how this book is used - firstly the people who the child trusts most in the world read the stories and teach that the stories are literally ture - i.e. these things actually happened and the questions are very pointed and designed to get the parent to reinforce the message it is trying to deliver 'bad things happen when you mix with people who don't believe in Jehovah'; and next - the repetition, at the back of the book it empahsises who you shoudl read teh stories over and over again; and finally the message of not mixing with worldly people is reinforced in the Teacher book but in a much more pointed way, so the books build on each other to make sure the message is accepted. The key thing is that it is meant to impact the subconscious so it is accepted by the child without thought. I agree it is only one part of the armoury of mind control but I think it is an important part. Frazzled

  yes perhaps deliberately left vague - maybe he did but they didn't want to advertise that fact. As to not o many guilt-tripped I mentioned to my wife this morning that if she wanted to stop being treated like crap in her cleaning job, which she was complaiing about, then she should study and do something she wants to do and that she was perfectly capable of doing so and I owudl support her and given she had more than 20 years of work ahead of her it made sense. No response. She didn't say 'there is no point because the big A is near' but I could see her thinking it. So she will continue to be an economic burden on me through her working life in her minimum income job and retire with no retirement income and be dependent on me then as well. Thanks WBTS!

  What a delightful story - 'I never pursued my promising career in structural engineering so I could go to prison and then tell people for 70 years of my life that Armageddon was coming soon, very very soon, for all sorts of different reasons based on the current events of the day, and how I alwyas knew I would never die (except maybe I might actually die soon), but let's not dwell on how I was mislead all these years and how I mislead others.'

  The point of this story is clear - DO NOT MIX WITH WORLDLY PEOPLE - BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DO. Making children scared to mix with other children or in fact all non-Witnesses. This is the only place this phobia is introduced in the Bible Stories book but it comes back in a big way in the Teacher book.

  mP - my point about how you express your views stands. You would get a better response to your opinions if you said 'I disagree with you because...' or 'I disagree with you for the following reasons...' Refering to examples is all very well but if they are selective then they may still be misleading. You would do well to move away from black and white thinking and recongnise that the world is complex and sometimes we cannot have all the answers and we need to listen to others and test what they say and update our understanding accordingly. Also remember what I said about the value judgements and also challenge yourself - understand your own assumptiosn and biases. This will lead to personal growth. Frazzled

  mp - I would also add that you may want to reconsideer making statements such as 'this is completely untrue' - your rejoinder re WWII missed the point of what I was saying about the security situation right now. But I don't want to ge into a tit for tat with you on this and you are entitled to your opinion but you need to be careful about accusations of things not being true unless you are entirely sure about the exact content of the statement you think you are saying is untrue and you have concrete adn complete evidence to the contrary. Such allegations quickly make discussions rancorous and don't promote a reasoned exchange of views. Exchanges of views shoudl be exactly that rather than a competition to see who is right.
